Romania to see 20% rise in wheat harvest during 2013

Romania's wheat crop will reach 6.1 million tonnes in 2013, a rise of 20% compared to harvest levels in 2012, according to the European association of grain traders and processors, Coceral.

However, the wheat crop will remain 17% below levels in 2011 and only 6% above the country's mark of 5.75 million tonnes for average wheat crop in the past decade.

Farmers confirmed that the state of wheat is positive, with adequate water level in soil. Still, the European Commission puts the average wheat yield for Romania at only 2.8 tonnes per hectare this year, an overall harvest of 5.6 million tonnes. The figure is a 10% rise on year and some 3% below the ten-year average.
