Township in Nay Pyi Taw Union Territory, Myanmar, declared FMD-free

Myanmar's Livestock Breeding and Veterinary Department declared Lewe Township in Nay Pyi Taw Union Territory, as a foot-and-mouth disease-free (FMD) Free Zone and Prevention Zone, at a ceremony held in Nay Pyi Taw last week.
In his remarks, Union Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation U Min Naung underscored the anticipated advantages of the zone which helps accelerate the effective disease control and preventive measures and improve the socio-economic status of farmers and growers.
He added that cattle farming and trading process will be promoted by eliminating FMD, which will increase the country's gross domestic product (GDP).
The minister also called for strenuous efforts in implementing FMD Control and Prevention Zones in line with the established characteristics, ensuring the long-term resilience of the zone.
