Thailand and UK to establish strategic partnership, includes agriculture sector
Thailand and the UK are set to establish a strategic partnership, solidifying their commitment to bolster cooperation in diverse fields including economy, trade, investment, climate action, and agriculture, Bernama reported.
According to a statement from the Thai Foreign Ministry, Thailand and the UK will formally declare their strategic partnership during the visit of Lord Cameron of Chipping Norton, Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Affairs of the UK, to Thailand.
The Foreign Ministers of both nations will sign the "Thailand-UK Strategic Partnership Roadmap," underscoring their mutual dedication to advancing comprehensive collaboration in eight key domains.
These areas encompass economy, trade, and investment; political affairs, parliamentary cooperation, and multilateral engagement; security and defence; climate change mitigation, energy transition, sustainable development, and the green economy; agriculture, digitalisation, science, technology, innovation, public health, and people-to-people relations; education and soft power.
Highlighting the significance of the partnership, the UK becomes Thailand's inaugural strategic ally in Europe, marking a milestone in their bilateral relations, which have endured for nearly two centuries. The upcoming year will witness the celebration of the 170th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations between the two nations.
During Lord Cameron's visit, diplomatic engagements will include a courtesy call on Thailand's Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin, along with bilateral discussions with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Parnpree Bahiddha-Nukara.
These meetings aim to reinforce collaboration in key areas such as trade and investment, security and defence, science, technology, and innovation (STI), environmental conservation, tourism, and cultural exchange, according to a statement from Thailand's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
