Indonesia and Vietnam explore agricultural and aquaculture cooperation

Indonesia and Vietnam are poised to strengthen their presence in Southeast Asia through agricultural and aquaculture cooperation, announced Indonesia's Minister of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), Teten Masduki, Antara reported.

In a meeting with Hyim Kdoh, chairperson of Vietnam's Dak Lak province People's Committee, Masduki emphasised the pivotal role both nations play in the regional agricultural and aquaculture sectors.

Masduki said the government is eager to collaborate with Vietnam to elevate the quality and quantity of agricultural and fishery products in both countries.

He outlined plans for Indonesia and Vietnam to explore potential collaborations in modernising agricultural and aquaculture businesses through digitalisation, along with research and development initiatives aimed at enhancing the global competitiveness of agricultural and fishery products.

The cooperative efforts will extend to developing business models and fostering partnerships within fisheries and agricultural supply chains across the region.

Masduki highlighted several key commodities under development in Indonesia, including seaweed, shrimp, and eel. Meanwhile, Vietnam is focusing on cultivating barramundi fish, shrimp, and lobster.

Masduki said the Indonesian government's current policy focuses on down streaming natural resource-based products, including agricultural and aquaculture commodities.

He said with several leading commodities cultivated in both countries, this presents ample opportunities for cooperation and enhancing production quality.
