Iran's cereal imports soar 140%
In the previous Iranian calendar year (March 21, 2012-February 18, 2013), Iran imported over 13 million tonnes of cereals worth some US$5.6 billion, an increase of 140% on-year.
Wheat, corn, barley, and soy press cake were the main imported grain items.
Iran's cereal production to date has been 10% more than the previous year, Iranian Agriculture Jihad Minister Sadeq Khalilian said on December 19. He went on to note that Iran is registering a new record in the agriculture products output this year.
