Australia eyes Pakistan for dairy investment

Global demand for Australian farm expertise and livestock is set to continue, with Pakistan expressing interest to increase dairy production.

Peter Linford from the Australian Trade Commisison (Austrade) said dairy investment is rising in Pakistan and that means opportunities for Australia. "I see business people who are not even involved in dairy farming saying, 'I want to get a herd of Australian cows over here'," he noted.

"As there is a shortage of milk and there's a demand and you can only have fresh milk at the source, people see this as a terrific opportunity," he said.

Linford said there is no shortage of investors prepared to back dairy developments in Pakistan. "A government from any country has to provide basic needs for its people and milk is a basic need and from the government point of view, they see it as a priority," he said.

"From the private sector within Pakistan, they see profit in this business and we're also seeing investment from outside of Pakistan, particularly Arab money in the Gulf," he said.
