Thailand Egg Prices Set To Increase
Egg consumers in Thailand will soon pay more than Bt2 per egg, the Association of Hen-Egg Farmers, Traders and Exporters said yesterday.
President Wichai Taecha-vattananan said that was how much it costs farmers to produce every egg now, while the price at the farm door stands at Bt1.70. Farmers are currently eating the losses.
The 10 million eggs being produced daily are well below actual capacity of 25 million. If consumption recovers to 70 per cent of the pre-bird-flu level, Thailand would face a shortage.
