Vietnam spends US$57.4 million for March dairy imports

Vietnam have spent nearly US$57.4 million for importing milk and dairy products in March, according to the country's Ministry of Industry and Trade.

The figure represented an increase of 29.5% against February, local news reported.

In Jan-Feb, the Southeast Asian country imported milk and milk products worth US$88 million, down 17.1% from a year ago.

Vietnam has 120,000 dairy cows which are capable of milking 280,000 tonnes per annum. The milk output, however, meets only 28% of the country's demand, prompting the country to put heavy reliance on imports of milk powder to fulfil the local need.
