Global wheat output to be driven by Ukraine and Russia
World wheat output in 2011 will be higher than the figures of 2010 and the major countries that will contribute to the production growth this year are Ukraine and Russia.
This is evidenced by the prediction of the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO).
The FAO predicts the global wheat output in 2011 at 676 million tonnes, an increase of 3.4% as compared to 2010, however, it is still below the record 685 million tonnes in 2008 and 2009.
According to the FAO, the wheat harvest in Ukraine is to rise by 22.1% to 21 million tonnes, while in Russia's wheat harvest is expected to rise by 32.5% to 55 million tonnes.
