Japan's first ASC-certified feed mill marks milestone for aquaculture

Skretting Japan's Imari Plant has become the first feed mill in the country to receive Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) certification, marking a significant step for Japan's seafood farming sector.

Located in Saga Prefecture, Kyushu, the Imari Plant produces feed for various species, including freshwater trout, salmon, seabass, seabream, meagre, seriola, cobia, and tropical marine finfish.

Gihyeon Park, general manager at Skretting Japan, stated that achieving ASC Feed Certification aligns with the company's commitment to sustainability. He described the certification as a reflection of Skretting's purpose of "Feeding the Future" in a responsible manner.

Park emphasised that while the certification represents an important achievement, it is not an endpoint. He said it marks the beginning of a more sustainable future for Japan's aquaculture industry.

He also highlighted the efforts of the team behind the certification and expressed confidence that this milestone will contribute to the development of Japan's seafood farming industry. He added that the certification would help Japanese seafood meet global standards more effectively.
