Poland to kill almost 24,000 pigs

 
 

Close to 24,000 pigs need to be killed following the outbreak of the African swine fever (ASF) in a farm in Western Poland.

 

The disease had been detected in a farm in Niedoradz in the Lubuskie Voivodeship, according to the main veterinary office on Monday in Warsaw. The town is located 78 miles East of Guben.

 

Focus of the operation was the production of piglets and fattening pigs. According to the figures, it was the first documented outbreak of ASF in domestic pigs this year.

 

Since mid-November, many virus-infected wild boar carcasses has been found in Lubusz Voivodeship, which is close to the Voivodeship-Polish border.
