US beef inventories fall by 9 percent, while pork rises by 25 percent
The USDA announced on its monthly cold storage report that inventories for beef are falling, but were offset by rapid growing of pork stocks.
US stocks were down 9 percent to 418 million pounds at the end of February, on-year.
Meanwhile, total pork stocks were at 603 million pounds, up almost 25 percent in February over the same month in 2007.
Frozen pork belly stocks ballooned 68 percent to 79 million pounds, against the previous year.
Total red meat stocks were up about 9 percent, to just over 1 billion pounds on-year.
