Free Breedr app aims to bolster UK cattle producers' profits

The app is the first fully-traceable livestock marketplace, with access to cattle health and weight information as well as analytics tools to increase productivity and profitability, reported Cambridge Network.

All UK farmers will have free access to the app, which is connected to a secure cloud-based trading network.

All data about a cattle's live weight gain, feed, health and percentage will be collated to make predictions on the cattle's performance and best sale date to maximise farmer's profits.

Each animal in the app has a unique digital profile that can be paired with a contract and traded online, so producers will have a guaranteed sale and buyers have an accessible source of prime beef.

Breedr has connected to the BCMS and linked all information on the cattle throughout its lifetime to a digital record, with includes weigh heads and veterinary records.

The app is on trial with major beef producers, and consultation is underway with retailers, processors and other industry stakeholders.

Ian Sturmer, UK Beef Farmer of the Year and one of the first Breedr trial users, said with the app's support he is able to consider semen selection and work together with dairy farmers to boost growth rate, animal performance and quality of the meat.

He said the app enables farmers to analuse the entire supply chain from the dairy farm to consumption.

Breedr founder Ian Wheal said all farmers regardless of size, system or age should join the app, which has been in development for two years.
