Belarus sets grain production target for 2011
In 2011, all types of agricultural enterprises in Belarus plan to produce 9.9 million tonnes of grains in bunker weight, including corn, declared Mikhail Rusiy, Minister of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Belarus.
The minister highlighted that the stated grain volumes will meet all local demands and allow export trading of grains.
The minister reminded that agrarians produced almost one million tonnes of wheat last year. In the current season, agrarians plan to raise the production volume by 450 thousand tonnes, in order to secure local swine breeding and poultry farming with the commodity. Agrarians also plan to produce almost one million tonnes of corn across almost 840 thousand hectares in contrast to 770 thousand tonnes of corn last year.
Rusiy emphasised that agrarians planted winter crops on time last year. Thus, losses of winter crops plantings stayed within reasonable standard areas, though the indices hit the maximum level of 10% in some cases.
