Ukraine can start producing 80 million tonnes of grain

In five years, Ukraine can start producing 80 million tonnes of grain crop if it reaches the European yield indexes, according to the president of the Ukrainian Grain Association, Volodymyr Klymenko.

He reminded that in 2008, Ukraine yielded 53 million tonnes, in 2009 - 48 million tonnes. Ukraine's need in grain crop is 26-27 million tonnes, which means that it will continue to boost grain export in the following years. According to Klymenko, Ukraine reached the European yield level only in corn production.

Klymenko noted that now the largest grain trading companies are preparing for a growth in export, and as a result they boost capacities on grain transhipment and shipment.

Currently, Ukraine exports grain to 89 countries.
