Brazilian poultry farm production falls 5.8 percent in February
The number of hens bred in Brazilian poultry farms in February fell by 5.83 percent to 2.96 million in February 2007, compared to the same month last year, according to statistics from the Brazilian poultry federation Uniao Brasileira de Avicultura (UBA).
The figure was also a 5.5 percent drop from January's figure this year. January also saw a 6.3 percent drop on-year.
According to local agricultural news and analysis portal AviSite, this trend is unlikely to continue for long.
Moreover, in the fourth quarter of 2006, Brazil registered three consecutive monthly year-on-year increases.
In 2006, the country bred some 38.4 million hens, up 4.73 percent over 2005.
