Charoen Pokphand Group implements corn traceability system for sustainable sourcing

Charoen Pokphand Group's Feed Ingredients Trading Business Group (FIT) and Charoen Pokphand Foods Public Company Limited (CP Foods) have successfully launched a corn traceability system to ensure the sourcing of corn for feed production is environmentally sustainable, free from forest encroachment, and stubble burning, World Business Council for Sustainable Development reported.

 

This initiative, now operational in Thailand and key overseas operations like Myanmar, Laos, and Vietnam, aligns with international standards and underscores CP Group's commitment to sustainable food production.

 

Paisarn Kruawongvanich, CEO of FIT, highlighted CP Group's dedication to building a sustainable food production chain while addressing transboundary haze pollution concerns.

 

FIT's "No forest encroachment, no crop burning, we buy" corn purchasing principle ensures raw materials are sourced only from plantations adhering to sustainable practices. Since 2017, FIT has implemented the Corn Traceability system in Thailand, guaranteeing that all corn used in CP Foods' animal feed business can be traced back to deforestation-free origins.

 

In collaboration with CP Myanmar, FIT introduced the traceability system for corn sourcing in Myanmar in 2020. Through registration and GPS tracking verification, corn growers in Myanmar ensure that 100% of corn used in CP Myanmar's feed operations is sourced from plantations with zero deforestation.

 

Paisarn stressed that CP Group's commitment to environmentally friendly agricultural raw materials, as per its Sustainable Sourcing Policy, builds consumer trust and fosters sustainable partnerships with farmers and business collaborators. CP Foods encourages Thai corn growers to register and verify their identity through the "For Farm" application, enhancing transparency and traceability.

 

FIT's adoption of Blockchain Traceability Technology further strengthens transparency in Thailand's corn sourcing, linking plantation data to feed mills. This commitment to social and environmental responsibility, in line with global trade regulations, underscores CP Group's dedication to sustainable practices.

 

In addition to the corn traceability system, FIT shares plantation knowledge with farmers, enhancing output and quality while reducing agricultural dust. The "Self-Sufficient Farmers, Sustainable Corn Project" empowers farmers with farming efficiency insights and promotes zero crop burning, enhancing the value of corn stubble.

 

To address haze pollution, FIT employs satellite imaging to monitor burning points and harvest areas, advising farmers to halt crop burning and utilize stubble effectively. In Myanmar, FIT's corn traceability system ensures that all purchased corn is traceable, reinforcing CP Group's commitment to sustainable farming and community welfare.
