China calls for stable farm production
China's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs has urged its officials to ensure production and transportation of agricultural products during the spring farming season, while also calling for them to implement COVID-19 control measures, Reuters reported.
The ministry made the statement after Chinese President Xi Jinping called on the country to take effective COVID-19 measures and minimise the impact of the epidemic on economic development.
Local agriculture ministry departments have been told to monitor human traffic, strengthen virus prevention and control in major farming areas, and propose contingency plans.
The ministry also stressed the importance of stabilising the production and supply of agricultural products.
The ministry said the transportation of farming supplies, livestock, and poultry feed must be well organised. They also said arbitrary interception and road blockage must be stopped to safeguard smooth flow of supplies.
