China's Heilongjiang seeks bigger corn sowing land
In 2012, the corn sowing acreage of northeast China's Heilongjiang province is projected to hit six million ha, 2.27% higher than last year, according to the provincial agricultural department.
Heilongjiang has been adjusting its planting structure by slightly reducing acreage for some wheat and soy crops with lower unit yields to increase the high-yield corn area.
The major corn producing province's grain output amounted to 55.7 million tonnes last year, accounting for nearly 10% of the country's total grain production.
China's early rice planting usually starts from early April, while corn planting begins from May.
