India's NFDB to support aquaculture and fisheries development
India's National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB) has announced its support for intensive aquaculture in ponds and tanks, culture-based capture fisheries in reservoirs, coastal aquaculture, mariculture, and seaweed cultivation.
NFDB chief executive Bijay Kumar Behera made the announcement during the inauguration of AquaBiz 2.0, an entrepreneurship meet held in Kochi. The event was organised by the Central Institute of Fisheries Technology (CIFT) in collaboration with AgrInnovate India and NFDB.
Behera highlighted the role of the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Kisan Samridhi Sah Yojana in empowering fish farmers and the Fisheries and Aquaculture Infrastructure Development Fund in strengthening infrastructure in the fisheries and aquaculture sector.
AquaBiz 2.0 provided a platform for entrepreneurs, researchers, and policymakers to engage with scientists, innovators, and government agencies focused on fisheries development.
