Spain truckers strike disrupts domestic dairy industry
A truckers strike in Spain calling for better working conditions has disrupted certain industries in the country, as dairy food producers complained they received less milk and farmers unable to receive cattle livestock feed, Reuters reported.
The Spanish Federation of Food and Drink Industries (FIAB) called on the government to act against the road blockages that have affected the supply of cattle livestock feed to farms, packaging materials to factories, and the flow of some fresh products to supermarkets.
The truck drivers went on strike to demand for lower taxes and relaxed regulations. Russia's invasion into Ukraine has resulted in soaring energy costs and compounded general price increases.
Mauricio Garcia de Quevedo, head of FIAB said the violent minority cannot hijack the rights of a majority who want to work.
In late-2021, the Spanish government agreed with the country's main truckers' unions to avoid a three-day strike.
