Major Chinese pork processor Shuanghui apologises over food safety issues

Henan Shuanghui, a major pork processor in China, apologised over food safety issues that occurred at its plant in Jiangxi province, Reuters reported.

The company suspended staff responsible and the sealed pork products at issue. Nanchang Shuanghui Food Co. Ltd is a unit of Henan Shuanghui Investment & Development Co.

Local TV in Jiangxi province highlighted staff working in dirty and smelly uniforms and disinfection measures that were loosely implemented at the swine facility.

Other food safety issues highlighted in the TV programme include pork that was packaged even though it fell to the ground, and a worker using the same towel to wipe his hands and sausages on the assembly line.

Nanchang Shuanghui has sealed all 310 kg of pork that were part of the batch that dropped to the floor. All staff working outfits were also cleaned and disinfected.

The company said it will improve production management and ensure product quality.

Henan Shuanghui is a unit of Hong Kong-based WH Group Ltd, the biggest pork processor in the world.
