Canada maintains beef production amid COVID-19 pandemic
JBS Canada said it is running at full capacity, while the Canadian Cattlemen's Association (CCA) is ensuring beef production is sustained through discussions with the federal government, reported CTV News Canada.
In an e-mail to CTV News, JBS Canada said it is running its beef production facility in Alberta at full capacity to meet growing Canadian demand.
The company has also implemented several measures to protect its workers from the possible spread of COVID-19. These include entry restrictions, stricter health protocols and benefits for workers.
Meanwhile, Bob Lowe, CCA president said the association is in discussion with the federal government to maintain supply of high-quality beef in the country. He said that Canada's food and livestock export and import supplies are not affected by COVID-19.
The CCA said all beef producers must comply with federal and provincial government policies, adding that there is no evidence that COVID-19 can infect cattle.
