Syria, Ukraine agrees on soft wheat deal

Two days ago, Syria signed a contract with a Ukrainian state-run firm to buy 100 KMT of soft wheat at EUR213 (US$280.20) a tonne, an official said, Damascus-based Al Watan daily reported Tuesday (Mar 13).

Syria's General Establishment for Cereal Processing and Trade Monday cancelled a tender to buy 100 KMT of soft wheat from an Arab country at EUR245 (US$322.3) a tonne, Suleiman Al Nasir, according to the organisation's director general. The Ukrainian offer price for one tonne is EUR32 (US$42.10) lower.

Syria has a protocol agreement with the Ukrainian firm, which is able to supply soft wheat at preferable prices, he told Al Watan.
