EU 2007 pork exports climbs to 23 million tonnes
The EU has gained global prominence as it exported a grand total of 23 million tonnes of pork in 2007.
Germany exported 1.9 million tonnes of pork in 2007, including bacon, fats and live hogs.
For non-EU markets, Denmark exported about 520,000 tonnes of pork, Germany exported 330,000 tonnes and the Netherlands exported 210,000 tonnes.
The EU's export volume to Japan and Russia has decreased but it has achieved slight gains in other Asian countries, especially China and Hong Kong.
German market and price analyst ZMP expects the trend to continue in the coming year, with East Europe also thought to have good export potential.
