Polish, African agriculture companies sign deals to strengthen cooperation at fair in Poland

Several Polish and African agriculture firms have signed agreements to deepen trade and agricultural cooperation at an annual fair centered around the industry in Poland.

More than a dozen agreements were signed on March 14 at the Agro Afryka B2B Forum, which is part of the Agrotech trade fair held in the city of Kielce in south-central Poland every year.

The event, which showcases the latest farming techniques and technologies, hosts more than 520 companies from 20 countries and is the largest such event for representatives of the agricultural sector in Central Europe, according to the organisers' website.

The Agrotech fair, which runs from March 13-15, was also attended by representatives from Poland's agriculture ministry and the Rwandan and Ugandan ambassadors to Poland.

The agreements signed between companies in Poland and Africa related to the supply of agricultural machinery, grain and flour, as well as increased cooperation and "mutual promotion", event organizers said in a social media post.

Polish state news agency PAP reported that Polish firm Jakpol signed a letter of intent to provide flour, wheat and other grains with the BrazAfric group, which operates in Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda and Tanzania.

Polfluid, a Polish chemicals and technology company, is set to supply operating fluids that can be used by farming machinery in Africa, while Polish company Agrarius has agreed to supply partners in Africa with biostimulants and fertilizers, according to PAP.

Mariusz Baścik, who owns a farm in Zambia, told the news agency that agricultural production is far more profitable in Africa than it is in Poland.

He said: "We are constantly expanding… We employ 70 people permanently and up to 400 on a part-time basis during peak demand."
