Additional 20,000 tonnes of frozen pork to be auctioned from China's state reserves

This makes 350,000 tonnes of frozen pork released since December 2019 as China continues to grapple with dwindling domestic pork supplies, reported Reuters.

The China Merchandise Reserve Management Center said the country will release another 20,000 tonnes of frozen pork from state reserves for auction.

The world's biggest consumer of pork is battling a huge shortage of meat caused by the African swine fever outbreak, which had decimated more than 40% of its total swine herd. The recent COVID-19 outbreak slowed pork production in the country further due to imposed movement restrictions.
