Vietnamese shrimp exports to China hike sharply
China has leapt from 8th to 4th position among Vietnam's largest shrimp importers, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood and Exporters and Processors (VASEP).
Since the beginning of the year, Vietnam has exported over 1,000 tonnes of shrimp worth US$12 million to China, up 110 percent in volume and 90 percent in value.
Although Vietnam's total aquatic products exports to China has fallen, its shrimp remains a Chinese favourite.
Despite this fact, VASEP vice chairman Le Van Quang said in 2009 Vietnam's shrimp export earnings will drop by 30 percent compared to 2008.
