Ukraine's pig, poultry numbers up, cattle, sheep down

 

 

The number of pigs in Ukraine on March 1 was 8.163 million, 12.2 percent more than on the same date last year, the state statistics committee reported Friday (Mar 16).

 

The number of poultry on March 1 was 158.076 million, an increase of 5.9 percent compared with March 1 2006.

 

The number of cattle in the country on March 1 was 6.395 million, a fall of 5.8 percent on the year. The number of cows fell by 8.3 percent to 3.338 million.

 

The number of sheep and goats fell by 1.7 percent, compared with March 1 2006, to 1.767 million.

 

In the last few years a number of serious investors entered the pork and poultry markets and considerable financial resources have been invested in upgrading the existing facilities and creating new ones.
