Cambodia's agriculture ministry orders for close monitoring of fuel and gas prices and supplies

Cambodia's Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries has instructed all capital and provincial departments of agriculture to closely observe the supply and pricing of fuel and gas in their respective jurisdictions, ensuring that prices align with those announced by the Ministry of Commerce.
A March 14 instruction issued by agriculture minister Dith Tina explained ministry had held discussions with the commerce ministry and the Ministry of Mines and Energy regarding the concerns of farmers and agricultural communities. These concerns centre on the supply and pricing of fuel and gas, which are essential for operating machinery, irrigation systems, and transporting agricultural products.
"In the event that irregular price hikes are observed, [they] must be reported immediately to the ministry, so that national-level measures can be taken," Tina said.
He instructed all agricultural departments to facilitate swift solutions if farmers or agricultural communities face challenges and difficulties in accessing fuel, by notifying the respective capital or provincial departments of mines and energy or commerce.
He also issued a reminder regarding the safe storage of fuel and gas, directing provincial agricultural officials to cooperate in educating farmers and agricultural communities about using appropriate storage containers, such as jerrycans or canisters, within safe volume limits. This is to ensure the prevention of fire hazards that could endanger properties, lives, and the well-being of local residents.
From March 14 to 16, the market price for regular gasoline stood at ៛5,200 (US$1.30) per litre, while diesel was priced at ៛6,400 (US$1.60) per litre.
The commerce ministry of Commerce will release new pricing regulations on March 17.
