EFL AG-DATA: Philippines swine market - Stable hog prices in early February, weakened prices in later part of month

In the week ended February 6, live hog prices in the Philippines remained generally stable, with fattening pig prices recorded ₱160–200/kg (US$2.80–3.50), compared with ₱160–190/kg (US$2.80–3.30) in the previous week.
While most areas showed unchanged pricing, selected markets posted slight increases, particularly in parts of Luzon. Piglet prices remained steady at around ₱4,800 per head (US$84.00), reflecting cautious restocking activity.
Despite ongoing repopulation challenges suggesting relatively tight domestic supply, liveweight prices continue to face pressure from imported and reportedly smuggled pork, which weighs on farmgate bargaining power.
The market remains sensitive to government policy, particularly the announced ₱210/kg (US$3.70) suggested floor price.
However, enforcement consistency and trader dynamics continue to influence actual transaction levels.
With retail pork prices not showing significant decline, live hog prices are expected to remain stable in the near term unless policy implementation materially tightens market conditions.
