Meat products from Smithfield's North Carolina, US facility now allowed to be exported to Canada

Meat products from Smithfield Foods' Tar Heel, North Carolina, US facility are once again eligible for export to Canada.

Previously, Canadian officials temporarily suspended imports from the facility due to an issue with a limited number of certain offal shipments.

The company stated it is grateful to the US Department of Agriculture and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency for a quick resolution of the matter.

No other Smithfield Foods facilities or US pork processing plants were named in the recent US Food Safety and Inspection Service announcement. The Tar Heel suspension was in effect on March 6-12.

News of the suspension lift comes as Canada and the United States continue to threaten mounting tariffs against each other.
