Brazilian pork and poultry processors will not cut production over COVID-19
Brazilian meat producer association ABPA said its pork and poultry processors will not stop production or send its workers on paid leave because of COVID-19, reported Reuters.
Ricardo Santin, ABPA executive director said the COVID-19 global outbreak has not affected demand for meat domestically or for exports.
Santin said their industry is unlike beef production, and stressed that all companies in the association have contingency plans in place if the situation becomes severe.
Minerva, a Brazilian beef packer said it will cut production due to COVID-19.
Santin added that pork and poultry daily volumes in early March show that export numbers will rise and is expected to be the same with last year, especially as Brazil continues to benefit from increased imports to Asia.
African swine fever and avian influenza cases have still been reported in Asia.
