Kazakhstan reduces grain production prediction

The Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan lowered the prediction of grain production in the current marketing year.

On March 17, Eugene Aman, executive secretary of the ministry, stated that due to the establishment of the progressive technologies in 2010, Kazakhstan produced relatively large grain harvest quantities in spite of the summer droughts, which allowed it to meet its local demands as well as reach export potential of six million tonnes of grains.

Originally, Akhylbek Kurishbaev, Minister of Agriculture of Kazakhstan, informed that the country will export seven million tonnes of grains in 2011.

According to Anna Buts, director of the department of development of land cultivation and phytosanitary security, decrease of the export potential was caused by the government reservation of approximately 2.9 million tonnes of grains from the general grain quantities for securing demands of the local market.
