India's Gujarat dairy co-operative seeing increasing returns

India's Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd. (GCMMF) had an export turnover of Rs 100 crore for 2004-2005

GCMMF markets the popular Amul and Sagar brands of dairy products and exports to countries like Singapore, Sri Lanka, Dubai, Hong Kong, Philippines and Cambodia amongst others.

The previous year's export turnover was recorded as Rs 80 crore.

According to R S Khanna, GCMMF's officer, large scale exports of Skimmed Milk Power, UHT Milk (Long Life Milk in tetra pack), Ghee, Full Cream Milk Powder and other dairy products including Butter, Cheese, and Paneer were shipped to export destinations this year.

The total sales turnover of the Co-operative last year stood at Rs 2,882 crore.

GCMMF is expecting a 10 percent increase in turnover in 2005 due to higher milk procurement of an average of 55 lakh litres per day.

The surge in exports has been the result of consistent adherence to stringent quality measures.

Khanna added that all the products were manufactured under the most hygienic conditions in the state of art ISO 9001/ 9002 and HACCP certified dairy plants.
