BRF approved to export chicken wings to Canada

Major Brazilian meatpacker BRF SA said it has been approved to export chicken wings to Canada from two of its plants in Mato Grosso state, Reuters reported.

BRF is looking to expand its product portfolio in Canada to boost in position in developed markets. The company also wants to bolster competition against other major Brazilian meatpackers such as JBS SA, which has a big North America presence.

Following the approval of BRF's Nova Mutum and Lucas do Rio Verde plants, the company currently has 15 units approved to export chicken products to Canada, a key market according to BRF.

BRF is also seeking approval to export pork to Canada.

In December 2020, BRF said it aims to invest BRL 55 billion (~US$9.87 billion; BRL 1 = US$0.18) over the next 10 years to expand around the world. As part of that strategy, BRF is looking to boost sales of its processed products of higher aggregate value.

BRF is the biggest chicken exporter in the world.
