H5N8 avian influenza detected in Germany
German authorities said a H5N8 avian influenza case was discovered in a poultry farm in Saxony, east Germany, reported Reuters.
The Saxony social affairs and protection ministry said all poultry has been culled at the farm located in Bad Lausick near Leipzig, with a quarantine area setup in the perimeter of the farm.
Europe has reported several avian influenza cases in the last few months, which has caused disruptions to the region’s poultry industry in the past.
Since end-2019, avian influenza cases have been reported in Poland, Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic. Germany reported a positive avian influenza case in a wild bird back in January this year.
