Australia 2009-10 canola crop cut to 1.9 million tonnes

A production estimate for Australia's 2009-10 canola crop was cut slightly and finalised at 1.90 million tonnes, down 0.7% from January, but up from actual output of 1.88 million tonnes last crop year ended March 31, 2009, the Australian Oilseeds Federation said.

Western Australia state accounted for 52% of national output for the latest crop, and Victoria 21%, with South Australia and New South Wales states sharing evenly the balance, the federation said in a monthly crop report.

Australia's annual canola output averaged 1.32 million tonnes a year in the five years to 2008-09, of which an average 700,000 tonnes was exported.

National soy production from a crop planted in the 2009-10 crop year and which is soon to be harvested now is forecast at 53,500 tonnes, barely half an actual 101,500 tonnes in 2008-09, the federation said.
