Ukraine's 2005 wheat harvest up 6.7 percent at 18.69 million tonnes
Ukraine harvested 18.69 million tonnes of wheat in clean weight in 2005, 1.17 million tonnes, or 6.7 percent, more than in 2004, according to final figures released by the state statistics committee Wednesday (March 15).
The ministry said average yields decreased in 2005, compared with 2004.
Winter wheat harvest was 17.68 million tonnes on 6.1 million hectares, with the average yield of 2.9 tonnes a hectare. In 2004 winter wheat harvest was 16.36 million tonnes on 5.02 million hectares, with the average yield of 3.26 tonnes/hectare.
Spring wheat harvest in 2005 was 1.015 million tonnes on 466,400 hectares, with the average yield of 2.18 tonnes/hectare. In 2004 spring wheat harvest was 1.159 million tonnes on 509,000 hectares, with the average yield of 2.28 tonnes/hectare.
