2.75 million chickens to be culled in Wisconsin, US due to bird flu

2.75 million egg-laying chickens at a commercial farm in Wisconsin state, US will be culled to prevent the spread highly pathogenic strain of bird flu, Reuters reported.

The culls bring the total number of commercially raised chickens and turkeys killed in the US due to bird flu to 6.7 million since February 2022. This is the biggest bird flu outbreak in the country since 2015 when about 50 million birds were killed.

Countries such as Mexico and China have banned imports of US poultry from affected bird flu states.

Bird flu has been spreading across Europe and is affecting Asia, Africa, and Canada.
