France's soft wheat harvest likely to drop to 33.9 million tonnes

In the 2011-12 season, French soft wheat production is likely to fall to 33.9 million tonnes, from 35.7 million tonnes in the same period a year earlier, France Agrimer, said Wednesday (Mar 14).

The government agency marginally lowered its estimate for 2011-12 from a forecast of 34 million tonnes made last month.

France Agrimer forecasts soft wheat exports to non-EU countries are expected to fall to 8.8 million tonnes, from 12.9 million tonnes in 2010-11, and exports to EU countries are seen almost stable at 6.7 million tonnes.

The agency said it expects corn production in 2011-12 will be 15.5 million tonnes. It forecast hard wheat output will be two million tonnes and barley output will be 8.8 million tonnes.
