Vietnam vital agriculture market for Argentina in ASEAN

During the 2024 Argentina Agricultural Exhibition Expoagro in Buenos Aires, Fernando Vilella, Argentina's Secretary of Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries, highlighted Vietnam as the most crucial market for Argentina within the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Voice of Vietnam reported.

Vilella underscored Vietnam's significance in Argentina's trade expansion strategy, citing the Southeast Asian nation as a pivotal trade partner and major consumer of Argentina's agricultural products, particularly soybeans and corn.

Expressing a desire for enhanced trade collaboration, Vilella stressed the importance of mutual exchange of high-quality goods and the importation of Vietnamese products.

Agricultural engineer Mariano Winograd discussed participation in a collaborative aquaculture project between Vietnam and Argentina, revealing plans for Vietnamese agricultural experts to visit Argentina soon to implement projects in the northern province of Misiones, focusing on dragon fruit, citrus, and guava cultivation.

Eduardo Larocreus, a member of Argentina's bioeconomy advisory board, expressed eagerness to share expertise, knowledge, and technology with Vietnam for peri-urban bioeconomy development, aiming for sustainable growth and environmental conservation.

The bilateral trade between Vietnam and Argentina has surged significantly from 2007 to 2022, growing nearly 13 times from US$378 million to US$4.88 billion, positioning Argentina as Vietnam's fifth-largest trading partner in the Americas. Similarly, Vietnam ranks as Argentina's sixth-largest trading partner.

Notably, Argentina stands as a prominent supplier of corn and animal feed to Vietnam, with agricultural products comprising 92% of Vietnam's imports from Argentina.
