Paraná, Brazil to produce lesser grain at start of 2021/22 summer harvest

Paraná, Brazil will produce 42% less grain than expected at the start of the 2021/22 summer harvest, based on updated estimates provided by the Department of Rural Economics (Deral) of the State Secretariat of Agriculture and Supply.

The sharp drop is mainly due to the reduction in the potential of soybeans, which occupy 90% of planted grain areas in Paraná. The volume currently forecast for the crop is 45% lower than initial estimates.

The Deral survey confirms that climatic adversities have significantly affected the production of the first batch of soybean crops. About 19% of the total expected for the crop has already been commercialised by producers. In the same period last year, as Paraná had a more significant production, farmers had commercialised 45% of the volume.

The report also shows losses in the first corn crops. Deral's expectation is that 2.76 million tonnes will be produced, 35% lower than initial expectations of 4.26 million tonnes.

The expected production for the first corn crop is 2.76 million tonnes, about 1.5 million lesser than initial expectations.
