ASF discovered in swine transported to Sichuan, China

China's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs said African swine fever (ASF) was discovered among illegally transported swine to Sichuan from other provinces, reported Reuters.

According to a statement on the ministry's website, ASF was reported on a truck carrying 111 swine. Seven swine from the herd was killed from the disease.

The ASF outbreak China has decimated more than 40% of the country's total swine herd since it was first discovered in August 2018. China approved more meat import sources globally to supplement dwindling domestic pork supplies, pushing meat prices to record levels around the world.
