USDA reports shows lowest recorded US pork sales to China
The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) latest weekly report shows the lowest US pork exports to China in the week ended March 5, 2020, reported Reuters.
This comes even after ports in China have steadily improved access following transport restrictions and quarantines imposed in the country.
Buyer cancellations from China dropped total pork export sales to negative 45,222 to the world's biggest consumer of pork. This is lowest recorded total since the USDA first kept records in 2013, with the previous lowest recorded total being 17,614 tonnes in the week ended January 2, 2020.
There was 139,719 tonnes of pork shipped to China, mirroring earlier export sales.
Soybean net sales to China also fell to negative 90,281 tonnes, lowest since the week ended August 5, 2019 when cancellations dropped sales to China at negative 422,658 tonnes.
Traders are monitoring exports to China to bounce back after the US-China phase 1 trade deal, which was signed in January 2020.
