China to auction additional frozen pork from state reserves
The China Merchandise Reserve Management Centre said an additional 20,000 tonnes of frozen pork from state reserves will be auctioned on March 13, 2020, reported Reuters.
Hundreds of thousands of tonnes of frozen pork have been released from China's state reserves since December 2019 to supplement dwindling domestic pork supplies caused by the African swine fever outbreak in the country.
The most recent release of frozen pork from state reserves came on March 4, 2020, for 20,000 tonnes. A previous 10,000 tonnes of frozen pork from state reserves was released to Hubei on February 26, 2020 the epicentre of the COVID-19 crisis.
