Vietnam's January tuna exports up 47.1% on-year
 

 

Vietnam exported US$47.9 million worth of tuna products in January of 2013, up 47.1% from January 2012.

 

Shipments to Mexico reached the largest growth at 1,853%, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP).

 

The US imported US$15.5 million worth of tuna products, up 7.3% versus January 2012 and taking up 32.5% of the market. Next was the EU with US$10.2 million in purchases, up 73% on-year and representing 21.4% of sales.

 

Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries followed with US$6.1 million worth of Vietnamese tuna imports in January 2013, up 527.1% compared to January 2012 and taking up 12.7% of the market. Next was Japan with US$5 million in imports, down 16.6% versus January 2012 and taking up 10.5% of sales.

 

Israel came next with US$1.5 million in imports of Vietnamese tuna products, up 77.1% compared to January 2012 and representing 3% of the market. Canada bought US$1.14 million worth of tuna products, down 3.4% and taking up 2.4% of the market.

 

Then, Mexico bought US$1 million in tuna products in January 2013, up 1,853% and representing 2.2% of sales. Tunisia followed with US$803,000 in imports, up 47.3% and taking up 1.7% of the market.

 

Other countries purchased US$1.89 million worth of Vietnamese tuna products in January 2013, up 16% and representing 4% of the market.
