South Korea requests US to open market to Korean beef, chicken

South Korea has requested the US to open its market for Korean beef and chicken imports.

Trade representatives from the two countries met in Seoul on Wednesday (Mar 11) to resolve some bilateral trade issues.

South Korea proposed that the US recognise it as a foot-and-mouth-disease-free region and allow imports of Korean beef.

South Korea also urged the US to speed up quarantine inspections for the Korean chicken soup known as samgyetang so that sales can commence.
