China's Northeast General Pharmaceutical's Vitamin C Export in 2003 Reached US$100 Million

According to Shenyang Customs Authority in China, Northeast General Pharmaceutical Factory (NEGPF), located in China's northeastern province of Liaoning's Shenyang, registered a total export value as high as US$100 million between January and December 2003 for its vitamin C products, up by 110% versus the same period in 2002. The total export volume amounted to 15,000 tons, showing a year-on-year increase of 10.2%.
Vitamin C makes up the largest proportion of all the variety of medicinal material products produced in China and is one of the country's very few medicinal products with export value exceeding US100 million. China's vitamin C export accounts for 50% of the world's annual consumption.
Beside the world's two largest vitamin C market players, BASF and Roche, the annual output of each of the four major vitamin C producers in China, namely Northeast General Pharmaceutical Factory, Weisheng Pharmaceutical (shijiazhuang) Co., Ltd., Weierkang Pharmaceutical Co. and Jiangsu Jiangshan Pharmaceutical Co.,Ltd., is around 10,000 tons.
