Two new bird flu cases being investigated in South Korea

South Korea's Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs said it is investigating two more suspected highly pathogenic bird flu cases in Chungju, 147 km south of Seoul, and at an egg farm in Naju, 355 km south of Seoul, Yonhap News Agency reported.

The country has 103 confirmed bird flu cases traced to poultry farms since November 2020. The Gyeonggi Province (surrounding Seoul) has 37 cases and South Jeolla Province has 17 cases.

There are 224 highly pathogenic bird flu cases in the country that are traced to wild birds.

29 million birds have been culled in South Korea so far in this latest bird flu outbreak, which has pushed poultry prices up in the country. Egg prices are 44.9% up year-on-year over the past week.
